find something to wear that will match my new Halloween socks.

Yes my blogging has slowed, but don't worry, I have a good explanation: Its not my fault!!!
No actually, I am extremely loaded down with homework (it seems to be the same story everytime), but Thanksgiving is Coming!!!
So instead of blogging today, I'm just putting up a few pictures of my weekend. Most of these are from the scultpure garden in Minneapolis. And as for the trip, it was nice to have a few days where I had an excuse to not do very much homework. But it was a long bus ride, especially when our air conditioning shut off. You would think that when its absolutely freezing outside, the ac wouldn't make that much of a difference, but let me tell you it does. The best part of the weekend? The Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks! I finally got to use the lonely gift card from graduation (thanks Ashley!) that has been decaying from lack of use over the last few months.

find gas masks to wear everytime I step out into dairy country.

Its Thursday again, and although it hasn't been quite as wonderful as last Thursday, it has been better than my usual Thursday routine. The main reason for this is probably that my piano lesssons were cancelled once again and it is warm and sunny! Oh and of course the excitement that is beginning to build for this weekend. I'm going to Minneapolis with my general arts class for two days. We are going to a play, a couple of art museums, and a concert of some kind. The best part is of course that we are spending time away from the corn, dorm, and smell (which has been especially bad lately), maybe I can even go to Starbucks!
As far as last weekend, I definately did not want it to end, the picture (if I remember to put it up when I finish writing) is my dad and me at the fall play, Into the Woods. We also went to the fall music festival that my roomate was in and several sporting events. Unfortunately it was absolutely freezing outside, so we only stayed at the soccer game for a few minutes before we went to the hockey game (which was just as cold...?). We also went to my uncle's volleyball game which was the first time that I had stayed through the entire thing. The best part of the weekend (besides just being with my dad) was that I only ate in the commons twice. And I got to wear the scarves that my mom has been sending me.
So other than that, my week has been fairly uneventful, mostly just trying to catch up on homework, but at the same time failing tragically. I liked it much better when they gave us several months to do research papers instead of a few days. Maybe I should just send all my homework to my amazing, talented, beautiful, smart, funny (need I say more) graduate big sister for her to write...?

enjoy a wonderfully beautiful day.

Before I went to sleep last night, I decided that I was going to have an amazing day today, no matter what. So this morning, I slept in a little and I decided to wear my favorite skirt and curl my hair. While I was waiting for the curling iron to heat, I checked my email, only to find out that my piano lessons were cancelled! Which was by far the best news of the day, because I knew that one thing that had definate potential to ruin my day was piano lessons. So anyways, for breakfast, I had a warm donut, peach yogurt, and apple juice...mmmmm. My roomate had both her early morning class and her piano lessons cancelled, so we got to goof off a bit this morning. And just a few minutes ago, I finished another huge paper that has been stressing me out for a week. I only have one class today, because the class in which I often tend to watch the second hand move slower than a normal minute hand was cancelled. The best part by far, however, is that my dad is going to be coming in just a few hours! We're going to eat at my aunt and uncles tonite...so no commons menu for me!!! And I'm not going to do any homework from 5:00-10:00! So basically, there isn't many things that could ruin my day, unless...um...maybe if it snowed, because I would freeze (which is actually in the forcast...insane...I mean its October!). But then I would skip class and curl up with the book I haven't had time to even pick up. So no, I was wrong, there is basically nothing that could ruin my day. Well I hope all of you have as wonderful a day as I'm going to have!

...trying to...oh I don't care! My dad is coming in 4 days!

Sorry Devon, but I went to another sporting event. This time it wasn't lacrosse though, it was hockey. Although it was just as violent it was much more entertaining. However it did get very cold becauses we were pretty close to the ice and the bleachers were both cold and hard. Oh and the kid behind me kept kicking me in the back, that is until I not-so-kindly told him that he had his space and I had my space and that it wasn't my fault because I didn't make the rules but he needed to keep his feet on his side of the line. Don't worry, he wasn't a complete stranger so he took it pretty well. However, Angela didn't realize until later that I had met him before so she was fairly shocked, which made it pretty funny for me. So here are the 5 most fun things about watching hockey:
1. Since most of our team is Canadian, they sing both the US and Canadian national anthems before the game. But the girl who sings them is definately not Canadian, so when she's finished singing it, the canadians all turn to the people next to them and freak out about how badly she butchered it (everybody else thinks it sounds great).
2. Trying to decide what exactly is in the cup that they gave you when you ordered hot chocolate
3. Seeing the guy next to you drink the entire mystery drink in a matter of 5 minutes
4. Watching the goalie dance during time-out
5. Witnessing the panel of glass that makes up the outer wall of the rink shatter as two players' heads slam into it, And then of course watching the poor guys pull out the power-saw to cut the plywood that is needed to replace the glass
Sorry, that last one is almost two, but who wants to read about 6 reasons? And yes, I did pay attention to the actual game, at least a little bit of it.
Oh and then after almost falling asleep during a movie and barely reaching my bed, my roomate and I realize that there are two highschoolers serenading, I'm sorry very badly serenading, the highschool girls who are for some reason having a sleep-over in a dorm down the hall. There are reasons that some people don't ever make it as famous singers.

not give in to dumb trends.

I've been put on Facebook (against my will, for sure). For those of you who are not so up to date with all the college trends, facebook is a sort of blog/messaging type of thing which connects college students all over. Because I like to avoid most dumb trends like that (except the clothing trends of course), I refused to join in. That is until my roomates signed me up. (oh and by the way, yes, I only technically have one roomate, but when I say "roomates" I'm referring to the 4-5 other people who basically live on my couch) Being on this pointless little site wasn't so bad at first: I didn't talk to anybody or add anyone to my "friends" and so no one wrote stupid messages on mine. Unfortunately, this wasn't good enough for my roomates, so they went through and added all of the random people that they've met or talked to around campus. So now I have one more distraction to keep me busy in the hours that I should be doing my homework or better yet: in bed. Oh! but I did get my actual roomate, Heather, on Blogger!!! She probably won't post much but at least I have done a little bit of peer pressuring myself. I added her link (Midwest Farmer's Daughter) if you're interested.

join lacrosse fan clubs.

This afternoon, I watched my first lacrosse game, and I was amazed at how violent it is. I mean hockey is bad, but it just seemed worse seeing a bunch of guys running around on the grass hitting each other with sticks. I still don't understand the point of the game, except for the part of the getting the large bouncy ball into the net. Angela says that it is just a combination of hockey, soccer, football, and wrestling. Oh and baseball too, she says, because they have to catch the ball. Oh and another one of my friends says that this is as close to the gladiators as we get here in America, because we like to see them get in fights and try to kill each other. As much fun as it was sitting on damp grass and laughing at the guys get into fights, I don't think it has moved into my top 3 favorite sporting events to watch. Oh wait, there isn't a top 3 list, because I really don't like watching sports in the first place. Maybe I'll have to try watching intramural bowling.

enjoy cafeteria-style turkey on Canadian Thanksgiving.

I've met him! Mr. Wonderful! So here's how we met: since we had a long break this weekend, Angela, Karla and I went shopping all day Thursday. They just opened a new outdoor mall that has all sorts of fun stores that they don't have at home. So I bought a new pair of dress pants, a couple of jade tops...oh and of course, a new pair of shoes. Yes, they are very similar to some of the others I have, but they are tweed and adorable. Yay for new shoes. But anyway, as we looked around the new stores, we stopped at a cute little card store, and as I went to pay for a couple of birthday cards, I noticed Mr. Right sitting right there on the bench. He was still there when I was finished (of course) and so I knew that it was a perfect kodak moment. Don't worry, I didn't buy him, although it would be awfully fun to have him sitting on my couch for some unsuspecting passerby to notice.
On Friday, I was hoping to catch a ride with a girl from the town where my grandparents live, but that didn't work out, so one of my friends suggested taking her brother's car. Unfortunately I didn't exactly know how to get there and unfortunately I didn't realize how fast they drive in Canada. However, neither of these life-threatening obstacles got in our way and the two of us made our way up in a record breaking time. The rest of the weekend was taken at a much slower pace, after all we could hardly move after all the amazing food that my grandmothers, aunts, and cousins fed us. I didn't touch my books and I slept in till noon. It was wonderful.
But now...back to reality. Or as close as we can get to it in a midwestern college town.

fit an entire tupperware of earthquake cake in my tiny fridge.

Okay, so enough complaining about the weather. Today is supposed to be beautiful, muggy, sticky, hot, and make my hair curl, but I am going to enjoy it if it kills me. And when it gets cold and dry I'm going to be happy that I can wear my new long sleeved shirt!
This weekend, I went up to visit my grandparents and on the way I got to go shopping. It was heavenly, all the stories about horrible days completely turned around by a day of buying clothing that you don't need? They're all true! All I had to do was look at those cute brown tweed ballet flats and I felt so much better. Now please don't think that I'm completely materialistic or whatever, because I'm not. Its just that being stranded out here in the middle of a cornfield has brought me to the place of absolutely desperation in the clothing department. Well sort of. Anyway, I bought a pair of adorable jeans, a off-white long sleeved shirt, and a cute scarf/belt, all on sale!!! And although I didn't buy even one of the 7 or 8 shoes that called to me and begged me to buy them, I have great hopes for the next shopping trip. Oh, about being near desparation in the clothing dept. I'm not really, because I guess over the weekend, my friends went through my closet and decided that they loved all my clothes. I'm still working on tracking down everything that migrated out of my closet. But if anyone feels like sending me a care package, there is an adorable dark red trench/jacket at Target, size M fits me pretty well. Just in case you need an idea.
Well I really should go get ready for class. I only have three days of school this week!!! And then shopping! And sleeping!!! I might go back up to my grandparents for some good food again, even if my fridge is full of bars and cookies and cake from yesterday. So for those of you who are coming up on a long week, my sympathies are with you, but I'm going to have a wonderfully long and lazy weekend. Love yah!
