Cuture shock moment # 3567:
Setting: Six girls sitting in a very small hot tub, with stocking hats covering our ears and the curls that are sticking out from the bottom of the hats freezing hard becuase the temperature is below zero.
The topic of conversation is centering around, of course, shoes and boys (what else?).
Angela: (my fellow Oregonian) oh, but he wears Birkenstocks, doesn't he?
All of the midwesterners: What are Birkenstocks?
Angela and me: silence...more silence...Birkenstocks, you know...wait...you don't do you...
It turns out that they did know what they were, we just had to describe them a little bit.
