Since there are only 2 and half weeks until exams, we have been more than eager to find any distractions that come up. Yesterday, our building had a door decorating contest, with a prize of 6 free pizza buffet tickets. So being the creative girls that we were, we decided to spend our evening cutting out snowflakes and taping up wrapping paper. Also, the guys downstairs said that we had no chance against them, so of course we couldn't pass up that challenge. So after two trips to Walmart, a large bag of quilt batting, and a lot of packing tape, here is half the team with the finished product:
As you can see, we went with an ice skating pond theme complete with real evergreens and tin foil ice skates. Also we couldn't forget the mistletoe for the door frame (which was actually a branch off our dead basil plant, but no one in Iowa knows what mistletoe looks like, so we got away with it).
We checked out all of the other doors around the building and decided that we definitely had a chance, mostly against the tropical holiday door and the room full of engineers.
Unfortunately as soon as we met the judge, our hopes dropped. The first thing she said was, ugh...barbies. Come on. We're resourceful! We're creative! They have tinfoil and paper clip ice skates! We realized that we had misjudged our audience, she was not the kind of girl who would appreciate our talents.
So there's not much else to say except that the joyful picture above was from before the actual judging. Our faces were not so bright an hour later. She went with the Chrismas gift boxes...from the guys downstairs. The one room that was more important to beat than all the others. So I'm sure that we'll here about their wonderful pizza buffet sometime this weekend and probably for the next month after that.
Ours was still better.
